Ecumenical Studies – Snapshots 2

Every two years the South Australia heads of churches commission a resource guide for Christians of all denominations to us as a conversation guide among one another. Traditionally the conversations are centred around the time of lent leading into Easter. This year the studies are set for the period between Easter and Pentecost Sunday.

Snapshots 2 is a DVD study resource that comes with a study guide to help guide discussions. This years theme is to discuss Christian life in community. There are 8 sessions designed to last 8 weeks. Each session contains 3 short interviews with Christians about faith, spirituality, life and the presence of teh risen Christ in their lives according the the set theme for the week. Here in the Mitcham Hills inter-Church Council we value conversations among one another about our faith which unites us in Christ. We have set up some ecumenical small groups meeting from the first week in April until the last week in May and anyone is welcome to join in the conversation.

If you would like to if you see a group meeting time in the list and you would like to join in, please email Mark here, and request the location and exact time the group is meeting. Each group is open and welcome and maintains respect and confidentiality.

Pastor Mark Riessen of the Blackwood Church of Christ is preaching on each of the Snapshots themes every Sunday beginning April 4th (Easter Sunday) to May 23rd (Pentecost Sunday) All are welcome to hear Mark preach then attend a small group to discuss the themes further.

The entire community is invited to attend a festival of music to be held at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church on Sunday March 28th at 2pm

Tickets are available at your local church or from your local school via the Christian Pastoral Support Worker for $5 each of $10 for families. All money raised will help support Christian pastoral Support Workers (CPSW’s). You can also buy tickets at the door

Seminar at Clearvision Church

We invite both Christians and non Christians alike to attend a seminar entitled “Ridding Society of a Toxic Substance called Pornography” to be held Saturday 27th March at Clearvision Church, 1-3 Alpha Rd, Bellevue Heights at 10:30am. The seminar is free but you will be given the opportunity to support the speaker by a free will offering.

The attachments show Jack Sonnemann as the speaker, and he is the Director of The Australian Federation for the Family.

Mr. Sonnemann has appeared before numerous parliamentary committees documenting the link between pornography and sexual aggression, and has successfully lobbied to raise the age of models that appear in pornography and ban the use of “child magnets” and “pseudo-child imagery” in Australian pornography. Come and hear how we all can be effective in the community to protect our families from this problem.

Verity Skye CD launch

Saturday Feb 27th at 7:30pm at the Blackwood Church of Christ Cnr Shepherds Hill Road & Waite Street, Blackwood

Verity Skye is releasing her debut album titled ‘ADVOCATE – songs that will not be silenced’

Verity’s musical style incorperates classical jazz, blues, rock, pop, folk and Congolese soukus. This ecclectic arrangement of songs has a powerful message of social awareness. Each song is written out of Verity’s experience working with people in all walks of life. Issues raised are about asylum seekers, slave trade, poverty, knowing the stranger in the street.

The CD launch is an opportunity to engage some critical social issues through quality music. CD’s are $25 and proceeds will support Urban Neignhbours Of Hope, TEAR Australia, World Vision and Childcare Kitgum Servants. A further $2 from every CD sold on the night will support the GMP Haiti earthquake relief fund

Verity Skye is a songwriter and musician from Coromandel Valley. Verity is a CPS worker and music teacher at the Hahndorf Primary School and is engaged in ministry with her husband Mark at the Blackwood Church of Christ.

World Day of Prayer

Every year it is important for us as a group of churches in the Mitcham Hills area to regognize and celebrate the World Day of Prayer together. Prayer is a vital part of our ministry to the community and world around us.

This year the service program was developed by a group of women from Cameroon, and features their way of worshipping and and an insight into their lives.

The World Day of Prayer is a global ecumenical movement which brings Christians of many traditions together to observe a common day of prayer each year. Through preparation and participation in the worship service, we can come to know how people of other countries, languages and cultures understand the Biblical passages in their context. We can hear their concerns and needs and can feel ourselves in solidarity with them as we pray with and for them. In this way, it is possible to enrich our Christian faith as it grows deeper and broader in an international, ecumenical expression.

Commissioning of Christian Pastoral Support Workers in Mitcham Hills

On Feb 28, at 10am, a service will be held at St Peters Lutheran Church, Blackwood, to commission the CPSWs (Christian Pastoral Support Workers) under the direction of the Mitcham Hills Inter Church Council.

This service will be held in conjunction with St Peters own annual Day of Thanksgiving. We invite members from other churches, schools and general community to join us for this special occasion.

St Peters gathers at the church/school complex situated at 71 Cumming St, Blackwood.
