Christian Pastoral Support Workers
The MHICC supports and manages the employment of 9 Christian Pastoral Support Workers (CPSW) formerly known as chaplains, in 5 primary schools, one secondary school and one specialized maths & science school. The CPSW’s provide practical welfare support through genuine relationships and programs designed for relief, assistance and skills building. The CPSW’s work closely with school staff and parents and have gained a great deal of respect in their roles. The CPSW’s have made a huge positive impact in the life of the schools they work with.

Kids Hope Aus
In mid 2007 we started a new program in partnership with World Vision to further assist the CPSW’s with the care of students who needed extra attention. The program is called Kids Hope Aus. It is a mentoring program for children who might be struggling academically, or are socially withdrawn or disruptive. Kids Hope Aus is a well managed program with training and resources provided by World Vision. It is intentionally set up to enable one church to develop a partnership with one primary school. The church will provide mentors who will meet with one child for one hour per week every week of the year. Click on the Kids Hope Aus logo below to find out more. We have currently have 5 churches in partnership with 5 out of 6 primary schools in our region who have mentors (regular members of churches who have been trained) working alongside our CPSW’s through the Kids Hope program. This currently relates to about 50 mentors working one on one with 50 children in our primary schools. The program is proving to be a huge success and we hope to share the occasional story through our blogroll on this site.
